The Lamborghini Iron Lynx Hypercar team had a flawless debut at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which was a tremendous achievement for the Italian manufacturer. They finished in 10th and 13th positions, with cars #19 and #63 SC63 LMDh completing the race without any reliability issues. Car #63 even scored its first point in the FIA World Endurance Championship by finishing in 10th place. Mirko Bortolotti, last year’s DTM runner-up, was joined by Daniil Kvyat and Edoardo Mortara in car #63, while car #19 was driven by Romain Grosjean, Andrea Caldarelli, and Matteo Cairoli from the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship team.
Emmanuel Esnault, Race Director, expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, stating: “This is a remarkable achievement. Our main goal was to finish the race without major issues, and we accomplished that without even needing to go to the garage. Additionally, we achieved our first points-scoring result in the FIA WEC. I am incredibly proud of how our team managed the race and overcame any challenges that came their way. Considering the immense effort and dedication that have been invested in this project, I am excited to see what we can achieve in the future, starting with the upcoming IMSA event at Watkins Glen and the Brazilian round of the FIA WEC.”
Kvyat also shared his excitement about the race, saying: “It was an incredible race for us. We are thrilled with this result as it is a testament to our hard work. However, there is still a lot of work ahead as my ultimate goal is to win one day. The next steps we take will be crucial, and once we put everything together, we will be able to compete for victory.”
During the race, car #19 driven by Caldarelli had minor problems with the bodywork at the beginning, which caused a loss of time. In addition, the race was characterized by intermittent and heavy rain, which added to the already challenging conditions of endurance and fatigue typical of a 24-hour race.
The SC63 made its debut at the demanding 12 Hours of Sebring before participating in the opening of the WEC Qatar 1812 km season, as well as the Imola and Spa-Francorchamps stages that preceded Le Mans. Unfortunately, they were unable to participate in the 24 Hours of Daytona. The team’s next race will be the 6 Hours of Glen at IMSA, which will take place at Watkins Glen on June 30th, with drivers Caldarelli and Cairoli.
