A Hollywood Ending? Dutch Racer Tom Coronel Envisions a Dream Finale for Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari

Can Lewis Hamilton Tame Ferrari? The F1 Icon Faces His Toughest Adaptation Test Yet

If Formula 1 were a Netflix drama, Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari would be the ultimate script twist—a seven-time world champion donning the famous red, chasing an eighth title for the most legendary team in motorsport history.

But what if the story didn’t just start like a blockbuster—what if it ended like one, too?

Enter Dutch racing veteran Tom Coronel, who has imagined the perfect Netflix-style ending to Hamilton’s career, featuring redemption, a last-lap title fight with Max Verstappen, and a shocking retirement announcement on the podium.

“A New Netflix Finale”—Coronel’s Dream Hamilton Scenario

In an interview, Coronel crafted the ultimate fairytale ending for the British icon’s career.

“That’s what I’ve described as the new Netflix finale, which they can then use for 2026.”

According to the Dutchman, Hamilton’s story arc is simple yet powerful:

  1. He joins Ferrari, the most iconic team in Formula 1 history.
  2. He chases his dream of winning in red, aiming for an eighth title to surpass Michael Schumacher.
  3. He battles Verstappen all season long in a dramatic title fight.
  4. In the final race, Verstappen suffers an issue outside of his control—perhaps a broken valve cap, mirroring Hamilton’s heartbreak in Abu Dhabi 2021.
  5. Hamilton crosses the line as an eight-time world champion.
  6. On the podium, he stuns the world with a shocking retirement announcement.

“If I can play Steven Spielberg for a while, the dream is that he will say there on that podium, ‘I retire.’ Then there will be a nice seat available for a young, wild dog, or perhaps another big name in the red suit.”

Coronel’s version would flip the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on its head—this time, Max Verstappen would be the one who loses the title due to an uncontrollable misfortune, while Hamilton walks away victorious.

It would be poetic justice—a reversal of one of the most controversial moments in F1 history, with Hamilton getting the final word before stepping away from the sport forever.

Could Hamilton Really Retire on the Podium?

The idea of Hamilton calling it quits the second he reaches the summit isn’t far-fetched. Many greats have chosen to go out on top rather than slowly decline—just ask Nico Rosberg, who retired immediately after winning the 2016 championship.

If Hamilton does win an eighth title, he would achieve something no other driver has done—surpassing Schumacher’s record once and for all. There would be nothing left to prove.

At 40 years old, Ferrari could be his final chapter in F1. He’s already said he doesn’t want to race “into his mid-40s,” and if he wins it all in 2025 or 2026, why stick around?

Will the Ferrari Move Deliver the Script Fans Want?

Of course, reality is never as clean as a scripted Hollywood ending. Ferrari has tons of work to do before they can challenge Red Bull’s dominance, and Hamilton’s title hopes hinge on whether the Scuderia can give him a car capable of fighting at the front.

But if Ferrari finds the magic and Hamilton enters the final race of 2025 or 2026 with the title on the line—it’s hard not to think about what Coronel has envisioned.

Could we really witness Hamilton vs. Verstappen, last lap, for an eighth championship—and then an iconic mic-drop retirement?

If so, F1 might just get the greatest ending in motorsport history.
