A group is coming together to support Larson’s participation in the Indianapolis 500 race.

Kyle Larson’s debut in the Indianapolis 500 is taking shape with Arrow McLaren. The reigning NASCAR Cup champion recently completed a test run with the Chevy-powered team at Phoenix International Raceway. The No. 17 McLaren-Hendrick entry was in action, completing approximately 120 laps on the 1.0-mile oval. Larson expressed his satisfaction with the test, despite the unexpected change in schedule due to weather conditions. He appreciated the opportunity to test in favorable weather conditions.

Unlike his previous rookie test at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Larson had the chance to experience the Dallara-Chevy on the shorter PIR oval. The car had less downforce, making the track more challenging and requiring him to lift off the throttle. Larson enjoyed working on the timing of the corners and addressing balance issues. He also had a moment of losing control at slower speeds, which allowed him to understand the limits of the car.

Arrow McLaren has made further progress in assembling the team that will support Larson during his pursuit of the ‘Hendrick 1100’ double. They have hired IndyCar race engineering veteran Mike Pawlowski, who will work with Larson during his next test and continue in the role through the race. Pawlowski’s extensive experience with various teams will be valuable to the McLaren-Hendrick effort. Additionally, Brian Campe, a NASCAR specialist who has transitioned to IndyCar, will serve as the ‘car communicator’ for Larson’s No. 17 entry. Campe’s knowledge and experience will be crucial in guiding Larson throughout the event.

Larson expressed his admiration for Campe’s career path, particularly his success in winning the Indy 500 and his IndyCar championship. Larson recognized Campe’s intelligence and appreciated having him as part of his team. He believes that having the best people in his corner, like Campe, is essential to achieving success.
