IMSA has revealed a provisional entry list for the sprint race of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in Detroit, with 21 cars. Among them is the Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 in the GTD Pro category, adding excitement to the event. The race, part of the 2024 calendar, will take place on the streets of Detroit and will last 1 hour and 40 minutes. This is the second and final race of the year with this duration. Unlike the previous IMSA Grand Prix of Long Beach, where only GTD cars were present, the GTP class will also be joined by the GTD Pro field in this sprint. The GTP class will have 10 entries vying for the overall win, with the #6 Porsche Penske 963 duo of Nick Tandy and Mathieu Jaminet emerging as winners in the last race at Laguna Seca. Meanwhile, in the GTD Pro category, there will be 11 cars competing, mainly driven by professional and factory drivers. The #15 Lexus, entered by Vasser Sullivan, will be an additional car exclusively for this race, just like its entry in Long Beach. This move allows both GTD classes to participate in all remaining races this year. The #15 will be driven by Parker Thompson and Frankie Montecalvo, while the #14 will be piloted by the current GTD Pro champions, Jack Hawksworth and Ben Barnicoat. Barnicoat, who claimed a victory in 2022, will seek not only another win but also to take the lead in the championship standings. Currently, Hawksworth and Barnicoat are in second place, behind the #77 AO Racing duo, Laurin Heinrich and Seb Priaulx. The Conquest Racing #34 Ferrari 296 GT3, with drivers Daniel Serra and Albert Costa Balboa, will also make an appearance in the GTD category. In addition, the two new Ford Multimatic Mustang GT3s, driven by Harry Tincknell and Mike Rockenfeller in the #64 and Joey Hand and Dirk Mueller in the #65, will be racing at home for the first time. The sprint race is scheduled for June 1st at 8:05 PM BST.
