Despite an early halt to testing due to an unforeseen telemetry anomaly with Lewis Hamilton’s vehicle, Ferrari’s 2025 model shows significant strides in improvement, according to team principal Fred Vasseur. Despite this minor setback, the team remains upbeat and optimistic about the season ahead.

Vasseur noted that the team’s recent efforts have yielded a vehicle that marks a clear upgrade from last year’s model. This advancement comes after exhaustive work over the winter, including modifications to the front suspension, which Vasseur feels has helped propel the team forward.

However, Vasseur also mentioned the difficulty in assessing the overall performance due to the fluctuating conditions in Bahrain, likening them more to Las Vegas than the usual Bahraini climate. He emphasized that the true test of the car’s performance will come in Melbourne, Australia, where the track temperatures are expected to rise dramatically, potentially altering the performance of all competitors.

Despite the altered conditions in Bahrain and the early finish to testing, the team remains committed to their ambition of competing for both championships, buoyed by their faith in their two drivers and a palpable sense of positivity within the team.

Lewis Hamilton, who is preparing for his debut race with Ferrari in Australia, echoed Vasseur’s sentiments. Despite the premature end to testing, Hamilton noted the team’s substantial progress and expressed his excitement for the upcoming racing season. According to Hamilton, the team has managed to accumulate valuable data which they will use to fine-tune their vehicle before the season commences.

Meanwhile, over at Mercedes, there’s a similar sense of progress as George Russell set the fastest time on the final day of testing. Andrew Shovlin, Mercedes’ trackside engineering director, expressed satisfaction with their pre-season testing in Bahrain.

Shovlin highlighted the team’s work over the winter to rectify the weaknesses of the W15 and expressed confidence in their 2025 contender. Despite minor interruptions from the red flag and sporadic rain, Mercedes managed to complete the most laps of any team over the course of the test, a testament to the team’s dedication and hard work.

As the teams prepare for the first race in Melbourne in two weeks’ time, the competitive order remains uncertain. Both teams, however, have expressed satisfaction with their pre-season progress and are looking forward to the start of the 2025 racing season.
