While we specialize in reporting Formula 1 news, we occasionally deviate to cover significant events in other fields. One such event is the 101st edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, in which we will be providing updates to our readers. This race promises to be an epic showdown, featuring a wide range of superpowers from the motorsport and automotive industry competing for the highest honors in this prestigious endurance race. In the world of Indycar, the Indianapolis 500 holds a similar importance to Le Mans for the World Endurance Championship (WEC).
Le Mans is widely regarded as the premier endurance sports car race, especially in the modern era, where it boasts extensive participation from major manufacturers. This year, 14 manufacturers have entered the race, with six of them being strong contenders for victory. Additionally, the event will feature numerous exceptional drivers, including some former Formula 1 competitors, such as Antonio Giovinazzi, who secured victory for Ferrari last year. We will closely follow Giovinazzi and other former F1 drivers as they compete for the ultimate prize at Le Mans this weekend.
This year’s FIA WEC season enters its fourth round with the 92nd edition of this iconic endurance race. First held in 1923, last year’s race marked its centenary, and the 2024 edition is expected to be equally spectacular, with an estimated 300,000 fans in attendance. Le Mans holds great importance in the WEC calendar, not only due to the immense challenge it poses to teams, but also because it is a double points round. The winning teams in the Hypercar and LMGT3 categories have the opportunity to earn a total of 50 points, making Le Mans a crucial event in the battle for the World Championship title.
The race this year will feature a total of 62 cars and 186 drivers, including 37 full-time entries from the FIA WEC. Competitors will face the 13.6-kilometer circuit, where Hypercars can reach speeds of around 340 km/h. Approximately 70% of the lap is completed at full throttle, with Hypercar drivers estimated to shift gears 78 times each lap. For a comprehensive report on the race, click here>>>
Our plan is to provide daily summaries leading up to the weekend, as well as continuous coverage throughout the 24-hour race. Rest assured, we will also be keeping an eye on the ongoing narrative in the world of Formula 1, which never stops.
If you are present at Le Mans this year, along with our occasional correspondent Michele Lupini, also known as Red Mist, here’s how you can witness the spectacle of the world’s greatest endurance sports car race.
