In the second practice session (FP2), Lewis Hamilton, the seven-time champion, set the fastest lap time, 1:30.374s, leading the time tables. He was followed by his Mercedes teammate, George Russell, with a two-tenths of a second difference. Fernando Alonso, from Aston Martin, secured the third fastest time, within three-tenths of Hamilton.
Carlos Sainz, from Ferrari, finished the session in fourth place, ahead of Oscar Piastri, from McLaren, who completed the top five.
Max Verstappen, the current champion, recorded the sixth fastest time, trailing the leading Mercedes by almost half a second.
Nico Hulkenberg, Lance Stroll, Charles Leclerc, and Sergio Perez completed the top ten, representing the second Red Bull team.
