Lors de la dernière édition de la Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League, Alex Palou, le champion en titre de l’IndyCar de Chip Ganassi Racing, a assuré une victoire consécutive sur le circuit d’Indianapolis. La course s’est avérée être un défi, Palou faisant face à une forte concurrence de Christian Lundgaard, qui a dominé les premières étapes de la course. Lundgaard semblait avoir un avantage confortable après avoir réalisé une manœuvre remarquable sur Palou dans le virage 1 au premier tour. Cependant, un arrêt aux stands bien chronométré par Palou, combiné à l’aide de Marcus Ericsson, a permis à Palou de reprendre la tête. Malgré les meilleurs efforts de ses rivaux, Palou a maintenu sa position en tête et a finalement remporté sa première victoire de la saison, assurant la première place au classement du championnat.
En milieu de course, un drapeau jaune a été causé par la sortie de piste de Luca Ghiotto, entraînant un nouveau départ. Will Power a tenté une manœuvre audacieuse à l’extérieur, mais n’a pas réussi à dépasser Palou, évitant de peu de perdre la deuxième place au profit de Lundgaard dans le processus. À partir de ce moment, les six premiers pilotes ont maintenu leurs positions, roulant en formation serrée. Scott Dixon, vainqueur de la course de Long Beach, a terminé quatrième, tandis que Marcus Armstrong, le débutant de l’année en 2023, a assuré la cinquième place, marquant son meilleur résultat en IndyCar à ce jour. Scott McLaughlin a eu de la chance avec le drapeau jaune tardif, lui permettant de remonter depuis la fin du peloton jusqu’à une respectable sixième place.
Colton Herta, the former championship leader, had a challenging start to the race after running out of fuel in qualifying and being involved in an incident with a teammate. However, he executed a brilliant recovery strategy, using an undercut tactic to make his way through the pack. Despite starting in 21st place, Herta fought hard and managed to overtake Alexander Rossi on the final restart, securing seventh place. Romain Grosjean also had a eventful race, exchanging heated words with Santino Ferrucci. The two drivers had a history of collisions, and Ferrucci’s actions in this race led Grosjean to be forced off track. However, Grosjean managed to regain his composure and overtake Ferrucci later in the race, finishing 12th overall.
Despite getting caught up in the chaos of the first lap, Felix Rosenqvist of Meyer Shank Racing showed exceptional resilience, climbing up the positions to finish in 10th place, just behind Graham Rahal. Overall, the race provided plenty of excitement and drama, showcasing the skill and determination of the drivers in the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League.
