Dr. Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s advisor, dismissed rumors that Daniel Ricciardo will be replaced mid-season in the Formula 1 team. Marko claims these rumors originated from leaks through Liam Lawson’s manager. Lawson, who replaced Ricciardo in five races last season, is set to become the next Red Bull affiliate. However, Marko clarifies that there are no immediate plans for a driver swap at the upcoming race in Imola, although they are considering it in the future.
Ricciardo responded to critics with a strong performance in the recent Sprint race in Miami, finishing in fourth place. Marko praised Ricciardo’s performance, noting that he set the fastest time in sector three, which mainly consists of slow corners. However, Ricciardo struggled in qualifying and the main race, finishing in 15th place. In contrast, Yuki Tsunoda, Ricciardo’s less experienced teammate, had a good performance, finishing eighth in the Sprint and seventh in the main race.
Marko highlighted that Ricciardo made a mistake in the sector where he had previously achieved his fourth place, resulting in his elimination in Q1. He also noted that Ricciardo lacked the speed and confidence that Tsunoda showed throughout the race. Despite Ricciardo’s difficulties, Red Bull maintains its position in seventh place in the standings.
