Berlim E-Prix: Cassidy corta a competição para vencer.

Nick Cassidy, from Jaguar TCS Racing, achieved an impressive victory in the first race of the Berlin E-Prix in great style. The New Zealand driver started in ninth place, but strategically maneuvered during the race with the help of two Safety Car interventions. In the end, he overtook Jean-Eric Vergne, from DS Penske, to claim the victory, with Oliver Rowland finishing in third place after starting in 16th. Pascal Wehrlein, the championship leader at the start of the race, finished in fifth place, while Edoardo Mortara, who started in pole position, managed to score his first points of the season in eighth place. Antonio Felix da Costa, Stoffel Vandoorne, and Sacha Fenestraz also secured places in the top ten. Taylor Barnard, competing in only his second race in the FIA Formula E, finished in 10th place, with Kelvin van der Linde as the top rookie in 11th position. Cassidy’s victory solidifies his position in the race for the World Championship ahead of the second race tomorrow.

Nick Cassidy’s victory in the Berlin E-Prix was a masterful display of skill and strategy. Despite starting in ninth place, the New Zealand driver navigated patiently through the race, taking advantage of two Safety Car interventions. This allowed him to overtake Jean-Eric Vergne and claim back-to-back victories. Cassidy’s impressive performance significantly boosted his chances in the World Championship.

The race started with Edoardo Mortara taking a dominant lead in the first corner, while the rest of the pack closely followed. The first lap was relatively calm, except for Paul Aron, who lost his front wing. Sette Camara briefly overtook Vergne for third place on the second lap, but the Frenchman quickly regained his position. Pascal Wehrlein took the lead on the third lap, with the Penske drivers holding their positions. However, they were soon overtaken, and Vandoorne emerged as the new leader after using his first Attack Mode. Da Costa moved up to second place, with Mortara in third. Mitch Evans also made progress, reaching the top six. In contrast, Cassidy dropped to 15th place.

Vergne and Vandoorne were in the top two positions for Penske when the full course yellow flag was shown on the ninth lap due to Joel Eriksson’s Envision car stopping on track. The Safety Car was deployed and when the race restarted on the 16th lap, Wehrlein quickly overtook Vandoorne to regain second place. Da Costa took the lead from Vergne, with Wehrlein and Günther battling for fifth place. Günther managed to move up to fourth place, while Evans took the lead. The race continued with intense competition and small differences between the top ten drivers.

Evans briefly lost the lead to Vergne, but quickly regained it. However, the race was interrupted again when Günther retired after contact with Jake Hughes on the 30th lap. At this point, Kelvin van der Linde’s ABT car also suffered damage after colliding with Sacha Fenestraz. The Safety Car period allowed van der Linde to stay on the same lap as the rest of the pack. The race resumed on the 34th lap, with Evans in the lead. Rowland quickly passed Wehrlein for second place, and da Costa emerged as the new leader. The race continued with several position changes and intense battles on the track.

With three laps remaining, Cassidy made a remarkable comeback, overtaking his competitors and taking the lead. He quickly pulled away from the chasing pack, securing a comfortable victory with a lead of over four and a half seconds. Vergne and Rowland maintained their positions to complete the podium. Cassidy’s unexpected triumph significantly strengthened his chances in the race for the World Championship.
