The IMS road course held a knockout qualifying session on Friday afternoon, with Alex Palou setting the fastest lap of the field.
The defending series champion completed a lap in 1:09.0004, and managed to hold on as Will Power slid in the final corner, costing him the top spot.
Christian Lundgaard posted the second fastest time, but was unsatisfied with his performance, despite securing a front row starting position just ahead of two experienced Team Penske drivers.

Graham Rahal, who received a new Honda engine earlier in the day, encountered clutch issues that required his RLL team to push him away from his pit stall. However, he still advanced to the second round and qualified in ninth place.
A brief warm-up practice session is scheduled for Saturday morning, followed by the Sonsio Grand Prix at 3:30 PM Eastern Time.
