The Schumacher family has made available for purchase a collection of watches, which includes pieces made by renowned watchmakers Rolex, F.P. Journe, and Audemars Piguet. Schumacher, who suffered a serious skiing accident in 2013, received two of these watches as Christmas gifts from his former team boss at Ferrari, Jean Todt, in 2003 and 2004.
One of these watches, an F.P. Journe with symbolic references to Schumacher’s seven Formula 1 driver championships, is set to be auctioned next week for up to 2 million Swiss francs (around $2.21 million).
Schumacher achieved a unique feat with seven Formula 1 championships, two with Benetton in 1994 and 1995, before joining Ferrari in 1996 and winning five more championships with the team between 2000 and 2004.
After initially retiring from Formula 1 at the end of the 2006 season, Schumacher made a comeback with Mercedes in 2010, leading the team that evolved from Brawn GP. He ultimately retired for good at the end of the 2012 Formula 1 season.
Schumacher held the record for most wins (91) and poles (68) until Lewis Hamilton (103 wins and 104 poles) surpassed him after taking his place at Mercedes in 2013. Hamilton won his seventh Formula 1 title in 2020, thus equaling Schumacher’s record.
