Adrian Newey deixa a Red Bull e levanta dúvidas sobre o futuro de Max Verstappen na Fórmula 1.

Mercedes, in search of a long-term replacement for Lewis Hamilton, has shown interest in Verstappen. The departure of Adrian Newey from Red Bull Racing has sparked speculation about Verstappen’s future in Formula 1. Verstappen, who has won the last three championships with Red Bull and is on track to win the fourth this year, is currently under contract with the team until 2028. However, with Newey’s departure, there are uncertainties about Verstappen’s future and possible destinations.

Mercedes, aiming to find a long-term successor for Lewis Hamilton, has shown great interest in Verstappen. The situation is further complicated by exit clauses in Verstappen’s contract, which allow him to leave if key personnel such as Helmut Marko or dissatisfaction with the team’s 2026 project arise. Reports vary regarding Newey’s influence on Verstappen. While some speculate that Verstappen may follow Newey in his next venture, others suggest that Verstappen’s group is more concerned about keeping technical director Pierre Wache alongside Marko.

Jos Verstappen, Max’s father, has expressed concerns about the stability of Red Bull after Newey’s departure. He fears that the team could disintegrate, which could unsettle his son. Seeing an opportunity, Mercedes is ready to step up its efforts to recruit Verstappen. They are willing to offer significant financial incentives, potentially surpassing Hamilton’s salary, as well as a lucrative ambassador deal. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff is even prepared to recruit Wache and keep Marko to attract the 27-year-old driver.

Mercedes plans to meet with Verstappen during the Miami Grand Prix weekend, an event where Verstappen aims to continue his winning streak. Whether Verstappen will be able to change teams in 2025 or if Mercedes will need to wait until 2026 remains uncertain. However, Mercedes is willing to secure Verstappen’s future by offering a one-year contract to Carlos Sainz to keep a spot for Verstappen on their team.
