Helmut Marko, Red Bull consultant, admitted that the departure of design icon Adrian Newey in 2025 will be a significant blow to the Formula 1 team. After speculation earlier this week, Red Bull confirmed on Wednesday that Newey will leave his position as Technical Director in the first quarter of next year. Newey, considered the most successful designer in F1 history, played a crucial role in Red Bull’s seven driver championships and six constructor championships. Marko acknowledged that Newey’s departure will create a big void within the team.
This will undoubtedly be a major loss for Red Bull Racing,” Marko told the Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung. “Although he may not have been involved in day-to-day operations or paid attention to every little detail, he possessed comprehensive knowledge of aerodynamics and mechanical grip of the entire car. Furthermore, his remarkable achievements cemented his status as a legend.”
There are rumors linking Newey to possible moves to Aston Martin and Ferrari. Italian media sources suggest that Ferrari is close to securing his services. However, with Newey’s departure, he will not be involved in Red Bull’s car in 2026. Marko, on the other hand, believes that the team’s technical department is well prepared to thrive under the upcoming F1 regulations.
“In recent years, we have assembled a young team of engineers, which puts us in a strong position,” Marko added. “However, the introduction of new regulations in 2026 will require adaptation. Historically, Adrian was the first to understand and optimize such regulations.”
