WILLIAMS’ OFFER FOR NEWEY IS MORE BELIEVABLE THAN YOU IMAGINE.

OFERTA DA WILLIAMS POR NEWEY É MAIS CRÍVEL DO QUE VOCÊ IMAGINA.

The possible move of Adrian Newey to Ferrari has been widely discussed since his departure from Red Bull. However, Williams is determined to present itself as a viable alternative. James Vowles, head of Williams, had an initial conversation with Newey, planting the idea of a return to the team. Although Ferrari may seem like the obvious choice, Williams offers a unique challenge. Despite being a back-of-the-grid team, with long-term projects and limited immediate prospects, Williams holds sentimental value for Newey. The opportunity to help revive the team where he achieved his first victories and championships is appealing. Furthermore, Williams could sweeten the deal by offering Newey a stake in the team, something they did not do in the past.

Vowles, in a press conference, indirectly introduced Williams to Newey, highlighting the team’s family environment, race focus, and absence of politics that may have contributed to Newey’s waning enthusiasm at Red Bull. Vowles believes that Williams is a place where Newey could rediscover his enjoyment of work, emphasizing that the team is driven by individuals, not by a car manufacturer. The appeal of Williams lies in its own merits, rather than trying to outshine Ferrari or replicate the Red Bull environment. Vowles allows Newey to draw his own conclusions about the differences between Williams and other teams, leaving the decision up to him.

Williams recognizes that it may not be able to fully take advantage of all of Newey’s brilliant ideas or suggestions due to its cultural and technological limitations. However, even a committed team can benefit from Newey’s expertise in car design. Furthermore, exposing Newey to Williams’ facilities and working practices could be invaluable in securing investments from Dorilton and implementing new practices. Williams has more to gain in this respect than a team like Ferrari.

Ultimately, Williams needs to make a compelling case to Newey. Vowles initiated the process by starting conversations with him. Given Newey’s track record and impact on all the teams he has been a part of, it would be foolish for any Formula 1 team not to at least explore the possibility of working with him.
