Stellantis has revealed that it may offer its future electric vehicles with combustion engines, in other words, with hybrid powertrains, if that is what consumers desire, which could happen as soon as with the next Jeep Wagoneer S. Like other manufacturers, the automotive group acknowledges that the transition to electric mobility will not be as smooth as many initially thought. Speaking during the first quarter 2024 results presentation, Stellantis CFO Natalie Knight revealed that the Wagoneer S will be initially offered as a 100% electric model, but a hybrid or gasoline-only version may come later if there is demand for it. “The majority of our products are combustion vehicles or intended to use the multi-energy platforms that we have,” Knight stated. “This is a great opportunity for us to have multi-energy platforms for all our products under development.” According to Knight, Stellantis aims to meet consumer demand while also sending a message to the market about its electrification strategy. Of the 25 new models the company will launch this year, 18 will initially be sold as 100% electric. It is worth noting that Stellantis has already announced plans to offer 75 electric vehicle options by 2030 and sell 5 million fully electric models per year by the same date.

“Our goal is to take a position where, on one hand, we can show the market that we know where the sector is evolving and that we are very committed to the electric vehicles market, but, on the other hand, we have the flexibility to grow where the demand of consumers is heading”, concluded Natalie Knight.
