Based on the fact that rumors often have some truth to them, it seems likely that Adrian Newey will soon be leaving Red Bull Racing. However, it would be unfair to solely blame Christian Horner for this. Since the passing of Dietrich Mateschitz, there has been a significant shift within the Red Bull organization. The focus has shifted from racing to the end result, which is not a suitable environment for Newey. The situation with Horner has provided a convenient opportunity for Newey to potentially step away from Formula 1 altogether.

This is not the first time Newey has considered a move to Ferrari. There were reports of a deal on the table earlier in his career, but he declined to prioritize his son’s education. However, in recent interviews, Newey has made it clear that Ferrari is the ultimate dream for both drivers and designers. Ferrari is not just a part of Formula 1, it is Formula 1, and the timing now seems perfect for Newey to make the switch.

Just like Max Verstappen, Newey has many options available to him. There are numerous teams eager to have his expertise. If money were the main factor, he could easily join Aston Martin, which, with the support of Saudi Arabia, is likely offering him a substantial amount. However, this would also mean carrying the burden of Red Bull, which Newey is trying to leave behind. Lawrence Stroll, owner of Aston Martin, has a controlling nature that he cannot contain. Furthermore, his son’s success is his top priority, even if it comes at the expense of the team. This arrangement would not meet the needs of a brilliant designer like Newey. It seems that both parties would end up disappointed if this were to happen.

While Max may thrive in the clinical efficiency of Mercedes, this is not an ideal destination for Newey. The Silver Arrows are highly effective, but their approach is more focused on producing results rather than promoting creativity; and we all remember what happened last time they tried the latter!

The only artist in the team is now leaving, leaving George Russell and possibly Max. While Russell deserves respect, he is not mentioned in the same revered way as Lando Norris and Fernando Alonso. Mercedes does not have the same appeal in that sense.

Every exceptional story deserves an exciting final chapter to conclude. We can reasonably assume that Newey’s next move will be his last before retiring, and Ferrari presents itself as the obvious choice.

Money is not a motivating factor for him (apologies to Aramco), and with Fred Vasseur clearly leading the way, he can have confidence that his plans will not be overshadowed by mundane calculations. Only Ferrari can provide the perfect canvas for him to create his final masterpiece – his magnum opus.

This would imply Ferrari winning the Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship with a car designed by Newey and driven by Lewis Hamilton, securing Hamilton’s eighth Formula 1 World Champion title. After this triumph, both would retire. Wouldn’t this be the final definitive epitaph for both legends?
