O gênio da aerodinâmica de Adrian Newey da Red Bull merece mesmo toda essa repercussão?

Adrian Newey continues to be the talk of the Formula 1 community, even though he has taken on a less active role at Red Bull several years ago. Newey, who is widely considered one of the greatest designers in the sport’s history, has been attracting attention since his time at Leyton House. He played a crucial role in Red Bull’s success over the years. Now, there are rumors that the 65-year-old Briton may be considering leaving Milton Keynes for a new team.

Tensions within Red Bull have recently escalated due to an investigation into Christian Horner, involving allegations of inappropriate behavior. This, reportedly, has affected Newey’s relationship with Horner, the person who convinced him to join Red Bull in 2005. It is no surprise that rival teams are eager to acquire the services of the 65-year-old Briton, if the rumors are true.

Aston Martin allegedly made a substantial offer to Newey, while Ferrari is rumored to be willing to pay 50% more and offer him more freedom. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff is also scheduled to meet with Newey at the Miami GP. However, the question that remains is: is the hype surrounding Red Bull’s aerodynamic genius justified?

Newey’s skills have led to historic successes in recent decades. Even during his time in IndyCar, the 65-year-old Briton made significant contributions. His work was instrumental in Williams’ peak in Formula 1, and even McLaren benefited from his expertise during his time there.

When Newey joined Red Bull in 2005, he laid the foundations for the team’s technical department. His leadership and direction played a crucial role in establishing Milton Keynes as a front-running team, resulting in seven drivers’ titles and six team championships. It is clear that Newey’s influence gives the team a significant edge over its competitors.

Williams faced difficulties after Newey’s departure, and some argue that the team never fully recovered. Although McLaren managed to turn the situation around, their success was tainted by the infamous SpyGate scandal.

Motivation is the driving force for Adrian Newey. In his book, ‘How to Build a Car’, the 65-year-old Brit admitted to feeling demotivated during the Turbo-Hybrid era, as Red Bull had little chance of beating Mercedes. This led him to take a step back and focus on other projects, leading to the creation of Red Bull Advanced Technologies.

While Newey is credited with much of Red Bull’s dominance on track, many also attribute his success to Technical Director Wache, who has been more involved in day-to-day operations. Therefore, any team looking to hire Newey must ensure he remains motivated for the Formula 1 project in order to make the most of his skills.

Newey has expressed reservations about the 2026 Formula 1 regulations, which may not be good for potential employers. However, there is no doubt that once he starts working on his drawing board, the 65-year-old Brit will work his magic. Furthermore, harmony is crucial for Newey, as he does not get along well with office politics or rigid work structures, which was the reason for his fallout with McLaren. He also demands influence in important decisions, which ultimately led to his departure from Williams.

There is no doubt that the arrival of Adrian Newey would be of great benefit to any team. However, at 65 years old and after years of less involvement in day-to-day operations, things may be different for him compared to his peak. However, teams like Ferrari and McLaren would be willing to hire Newey at any cost to gain a significant advantage over their competitors.
