Estela: Sanchez considerado muito experiente para cargo técnico na McLaren Formula 1

David Sanchez, former Technical Director of Concept and Performance of Cars at McLaren Formula 1, left the team due to his experience in the role. McLaren announced this earlier this month, revealing that Sanchez’s departure occurred after just three months with the team. Sanchez had joined McLaren from Ferrari and was granted a paid leave to complete a revised technical division. However, discussions between Sanchez and McLaren boss Andrea Stella led to the mutual decision to part ways, citing a “misalignment” in responsibilities. Stella explained that Sanchez’s extensive Formula 1 experience made him too senior for the position he held at McLaren.

During a recent event in China, Stella elaborated on the situation, emphasizing the dynamic nature of Formula 1 teams and organizations. He highlighted significant changes that had taken place at McLaren since Sanchez’s arrival, including a complete reorganization of the technical department and the establishment of new workflows and structures. Stella stated that, after careful consideration, it became apparent that Sanchez’s level of seniority exceeded the requirements of his role. Both parties agreed that it would be in Sanchez’s best interest to seek opportunities at another team that was more aligned with his ambitions and career goals. The decision was made amicably, and McLaren hopes that Sanchez will find a senior position in the near future.

Following Sanchez’s departure, McLaren restructured its technical department. Rob Marshall, former Red Bull employee, was appointed as Chief Designer, while Neil Houdlei took on the role of Technical Director of Engineering. Peter Prodromou will lead McLaren’s aerodynamics division. Meanwhile, Stella has assumed the position of Technical Director – Performance until a suitable long-term replacement is found.

Sanchez has been linked to a possible return to the Enstone-based team, as Alpine has had a troubled start to the 2024 season, resulting in the resignation of their Technical Director, Matt Harman.
