Max Verstappen declares Red Bull ‘undriveable’ after stunning qualifying setback at Japanese Grand Prix

Max Verstappen, the reigning four-time Formula 1 champion, has launched a scathing attack on his Red Bull car, declaring it “undriveable” after a disastrous qualifying session for the Japanese Grand Prix. In a shocking turn of events at the iconic Suzuka circuit, Verstappen found himself eliminated in Q2, marking the first time in over a decade that he failed to make it through this phase of qualifying at this track. This is particularly staggering considering he had secured pole position in the last four races held at Suzuka.

The young rookie Arvid Lindblad from Racing Bulls was the unexpected nemesis, ultimately relegating Verstappen to an unthinkable 11th place on the grid. To make matters worse, fellow teammate Isack Hadjar will start ahead of him in eighth place, adding salt to the wounds of the beleaguered champion. Lindblad himself will sit in 10th position, leaving Verstappen to grapple with a significant setback as he attempts to maintain his championship lead.

Verstappen's ongoing struggles with the new generation of F1 cars continue to be a major concern. After facing a similar crisis in Australia, where he crashed out during qualifying, and only managing to qualify eighth in China, the issues are mounting with no apparent resolution in sight. “The car never turns mid-corner,” Verstappen lamented to Sky Sports F1, clearly frustrated by the performance of his vehicle. “At the same time, I’m experiencing a lot of oversteer on entry. It’s really difficult. Unpredictable.”

Despite hopes that tweaks made during Free Practice 3 would improve performance, Verstappen reported that significant understeer persisted. “In qualifying again, for me, it was undriveable. That's something we need to look at,” he emphasized. The driver also pointed out that he was utilizing a different aerodynamic package this weekend, which only compounded his frustrations as it failed to deliver the expected improvements.

When pressed for further details about what he meant by “undriveable,” Verstappen offered a candid insight: “We have problems I cannot explain in detail here that we know are there, sometimes a bit worse than other times. In qualifying, it just came back to a point where it was undriveable.”

As the F1 season progresses, all eyes will be on whether Verstappen can turn his fortunes around and regain control of his championship aspirations, or if this latest setback will prove to be an insurmountable obstacle in his quest for glory. The tension is palpable as fans and critics alike await his next move on the track.
