Portuguese consumers can finally breathe a sigh of relief, as a drop in fuel prices is on the horizon for next week. According to the latest forecasts, gasoline and diesel will see a slight decrease, bringing a breath of fresh air to all those who rely on these fuels for their daily commutes.
Estimates indicate a reduction of three cents per liter for unleaded 95 gasoline and two cents per liter for regular diesel. This positive expectation comes after a series of fluctuations in oil market prices, particularly regarding Brent crude, which serves as a benchmark in Europe. The price of the barrel, which recently reached the alarming figure of 110 dollars, has seen a significant drop to 95 dollars, although it has slightly recovered, now settling around 100 dollars.
With the current quotation below the values recorded at the beginning of the week, many filling stations may finally offer more consumer-friendly prices. However, it is important to note that the final calculations that will determine the new prices will be made between this Thursday and Friday, after the markets close. The available data so far indicates that the drop in prices will not be as steep as the increases that drivers have faced recently.
It is worth remembering that, up to this point, the price of diesel has already accumulated an impressive increase of over 40 cents per liter, currently settling around two euros per liter. Gasoline, for its part, is not far behind, with a rise that exceeds 25 cents, also approaching the two-euro barrier, with a price around €1.90. The expectation of a slight decrease is, therefore, a welcome sign, although many hope that price fluctuations will stabilize in the near future.
This change is undoubtedly a reflection of the constant market variations, which have directly affected consumers’ wallets. Given the current economic situation, any relief in fuel prices is news that deserves attention and that many will be eager to see realized at the gas pumps.
