McLaren driver surpassed Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes by a margin of 1.261s at the Shanghai circuit. Fernando Alonso secured third place, trailing by 1.975s.
Max Verstappen of Red Bull finished in fourth place, while Carlos Sainz of Ferrari came in fifth.
Red Bull’s Sergio Perez claimed sixth position, with Charles Leclerc as the second best Ferrari driver in seventh.
Oscar Piastri of McLaren, along with Valtteri Bottas and local hero Zhou Guanyu of Sauber, completed the top-10.
