Lewis Hamilton is on the brink of history, and F1 fans are rallying behind the seven-time champion as he aims for an unprecedented eighth world title this season! A recent poll by RacingNews365 reveals that a staggering 52.8% of Formula 1 enthusiasts believe Hamilton has what it takes to conquer the championship once again, despite the fierce competition from Ferrari’s SF-26.

While Mercedes has enjoyed a strong start to the season, winning both opening races and the sprint, Hamilton's supporters remain hopeful. Some 32.8% predict that while the iconic driver will snag a few wins, he may ultimately fall short of the coveted championship, leaving only a mere 14.4% convinced that he’s out of the running altogether due to Mercedes' current pace advantage.

As it stands, the 41-year-old Hamilton is positioned fourth in the standings with 33 points, trailing teammate George Russell by 18 points. The battles on the track have been intense, with the gap between Mercedes and Ferrari fluctuating between five to seven tenths depending on the circuit.

After the Australian Grand Prix, Hamilton struck a note of cautious optimism. He told Sky Sports F1: “There are lots of positives, but we have a lot of work to do to catch Mercedes. It’s not impossible. I believe we can close the gap.” However, he did express concerns regarding Ferrari's power unit, pointing out that the SF-26 loses significant time on straights despite showcasing impressive cornering abilities. “Car-wise, the car feels great,” Hamilton remarked, “but when you're down on power, it's just the way it is.”

Ferrari's team principal, Fred Vasseur, has highlighted Hamilton's increasing involvement with the team, emphasizing that he is a crucial part of their drive for improvement on the track. Yet, to truly challenge Russell and teammate Charles Leclerc—who currently holds third place with 34 points—Hamilton recognizes that a “huge step” in downforce, efficiency, and power is essential.

Despite the hurdles, Hamilton remains steadfast in his belief in the Maranello squad. He passionately stated: “I really do believe in everyone back in Maranello and that it's not an impossible feat to overcome.”

The road ahead is fraught with challenges, but with unwavering fan support and Hamilton’s relentless determination, the dream of an eighth title is still very much alive! Stay tuned for the thrilling twists and turns that this season of Formula 1 promises!
