Nina Gademan Dominates the F1 Academy Chinese Grand Prix: A Historic Win in 2026!

In a stunning display of speed and skill, Nina Gademan has clinched her first victory of the 2026 F1 Academy season at the exhilarating Chinese Grand Prix. This triumph marks a remarkable start for the Alpine star, who showcased her racing prowess on a thrilling day in Shanghai.

The excitement kicked off during a fiercely competitive qualifying session, where the top eight finishers were reversed for the race grid, setting the stage for an action-packed showdown. Gademan, the seasoned racer, found herself on pole position, flanked by rookie sensation Natalia Granada, backed by Sephora. Alisha Palmowski, who secured pole for tomorrow's race, was relegated to eighth, while Alba Larsen positioned herself just ahead in seventh.

Adding to the drama was Wei Shi, the local wildcard, starting from the back of the grid in 18th place, determined to impress her home crowd despite the uphill battle ahead.

As the lights turned green, Gademan exploded off the line, seizing control right from Turn 1. Meanwhile, rookie Lisa Billard struggled, dropping back and allowing Racing Bulls’ Rafaela Ferreira to surge into third. The opening lap saw fierce battles throughout the field, with McLaren’s Ella Lloyd fending off multiple challengers while Aston Martin's Mathilda Paatz faced a dismal setback, plummeting to last after a collision left her car damaged.

Gademan quickly established a commanding lead, pulling ahead by a second just four laps in, utilizing her experience from last season to dominate the race. The thrill intensified when Peyton Westcott attempted to overtake Ferreira for third place, but the seasoned racer held firm.

The race took a dramatic turn on Lap 7 when Alba Larsen suffered front wing damage after colliding with Emma Felbermayr, leading to a Safety Car being deployed. This interruption proved to be a double-edged sword for Gademan, who had been controlling the race effortlessly.

When the Safety Car finally withdrew at the end of Lap 8, Gademan took charge once more, but not everyone had a smooth restart. Larsen, struggling with downforce issues, found herself sinking further back, ultimately calling into the pits for a front wing change.

As the race approached its climax, fierce battles erupted across the grid. A nail-biting tussle for third unfolded as Ferreira fended off relentless pressure from both Westcott and Felbermayr. The tension reached a peak during the penultimate lap when Felbermayr finally edged past Ferreira, who valiantly fought to reclaim her position.

In the end, Gademan triumphed, crossing the finish line to secure an emphatic victory, closely followed by an impressive Granada, who celebrated her maiden podium in her debut race. Palmowski managed to secure a commendable fifth place, while Westcott, Lloyd, and Billard rounded out the points in a race filled with drama and excitement.

Unfortunately for hometown favorite Wei Shi, her race ended in disappointment as she finished 17th after an early clash with Paatz.

With the first race of the 2026 F1 Academy season now in the books, all eyes will be on the drivers as they prepare to return for Race 2, where the stakes are even higher and the competition fiercer. Will Gademan continue her winning streak, or will a new contender rise to the challenge? One thing is for certain—the race for glory in the F1 Academy is just heating up!
