Lando Norris Takes on Thrilling Snow Drift Challenge with Rally Legends: “One of the Most Fun Cars I've Ever Driven!”
In an electrifying display of skill and adrenaline, 2025 Formula 1 champion Lando Norris recently plunged into the icy depths of a snow-covered drift circuit alongside rallying giants Oliver Solberg and his father, Petter Solberg, as well as drifting maestro Steve ‘Baggsy’ Biagioni. The action took place in Sweden, where the frosty conditions set the perfect stage for a high-octane showdown that had fans on the edge of their seats!
Speaking to reporters in Melbourne ahead of the Australian Grand Prix, Norris couldn't contain his excitement about the experience. “I drove a Volvo. But maybe one of the most fun cars I've ever driven,” he exclaimed, clearly still buzzing from the thrill. The young racing star, who grew up idolizing rally legends like Richard Burns and the Solberg family, relished the chance to step away from the world of Formula 1 and immerse himself in the exhilarating world of rally driving.
Norris reminisced, “When I grew up, before I was introduced into Formula 1, one of the guys I actually looked up to was Richard Burns, was rally, was Subaru. And Petter was driving back then. So I used to love rally, and I've always loved rally.” This deep-rooted passion for rallying was reignited as he took to the frozen lake, where he experienced the unique challenges of controlling a WR2 car amid snowy and icy conditions.
The drift challenge kicked off with the iconic Volvo 940, which instantly caught the attention of the group. After a demonstration by Petter Solberg showcasing his drifting prowess, the moment came for Norris to take the wheel. “Petter says, 'Now it's your time to have a go Mr Lando,'” Biagioni recounted. Norris wasted no time, quickly adapting to the car's characteristics and linking the entire track by the second lap. “Big Scandinavian flicks. It was awesome to witness,” Biagioni added, highlighting the remarkable transformation of the F1 star into a drifting dynamo.
But that wasn't all! The excitement ramped up as Norris transitioned into the role of co-driver, riding alongside Solberg Jr. in the high-performance Toyota GR Yaris Rally2. After soaking in the adrenaline as a passenger, it was finally his turn to take charge. “Very impressed actually, and I think at the end now he’s pushing properly,” Petter remarked. In a surprising twist, he found himself unable to catch Norris during the thrilling drive, a testament to the young driver's burgeoning talent behind the wheel of a rally car.
The camaraderie and connection between the drivers blossomed throughout the experience. Norris expressed his delight at finally having the chance to spend time with Oliver. “It's grown a good amount. I've just not been able to see him as much as I would have liked,” Norris reflected, emphasizing how their busy schedules often kept them apart. However, the opportunity to bond away from the high stakes of competitive racing allowed them to enjoy a unique and exhilarating experience together.
This unforgettable snowy drift challenge not only showcased the raw talent of Lando Norris but also brought to life the thrilling world of rally racing. With his passion for motorsport shining through, Norris's exhilarating adventure with the Solbergs is sure to inspire fans and fellow racers alike. As the Formula 1 season kicks off, one thing is for certain: Lando Norris is a name that continues to make waves far beyond the circuit!
