Alfa Romeo mantém Giulia e Stelvio no ativo até 2027

The news was anticipated, considering the few advances and many setbacks in Stellantis’ plans for the future of Alfa Romeo. And the house of Arese confirmed, indeed, that the Giulia (launched in 2015) and the Stelvio (launched in 2017), two models based on the Giorgio platform, and produced at the Cassino factory in Italy, will not be discontinued and replaced before the end of 2017. An extension of their respective life cycles that, obviously, also applies to the sporty Quadrifoglio versions, powered by the 2.9-V6 twin-turbo engine with 520 hp.

These derivatives continue to be the ultimate expression of the dynamic orientation of a brand that is an enthusiast of sports cars with exceptional performance, as is the case. However, there are differences between the two: the sedan has rear-wheel drive only, while the SUV features Q4 all-wheel drive, although both come with a mechanical limited-slip rear differential and a torque vectoring system.

Originally, and when it was already integrated into the Stellantis group, Alfa Romeo stated that it was committed to the rapid electrification of the automobile, a decision that presupposed the launch of new models without internal combustion engines starting in 2025. The ambition, at that time (2021-2023), was to have a 100% electric range by 2027. However, in 2024-2025, a reversal of the program occurred, and the adoption of a multi-energy strategy, combining gasoline engines, hybrids, plug-in hybrids, and fully electric vehicles.

The successors of Giulia and Stelvio, according to recent information, will be based on Stellantis’ STLA Large platform, which allows for the combination of powertrain solutions intended by Alfa Romeo. Santo Ficili, CEO of the transalpine manufacturer, told the English publication Auto Express: “We have reinvented almost everything, from the platform to the systems associated with both the electrical architecture and connectivity. This is the reason behind the extension of the commercial career of the Giulia and Stelvio. Therefore, before 2027/2028, we will not know the successors of these two models”.
