Red flags wave wildly as Bottas and Gasly ignite chaos at Bahrain F1 test

Chaos Unleashed at Bahrain Test: Stolen Wing Mirrors and Stranded Cars Spark Red Flags!

In a dramatic turn of events on the second day of Formula 1's much-anticipated 2026 Bahrain test, chaos erupted as a series of incidents sent shockwaves through the paddock. The day was marked by two swift red flags that had fans on the edge of their seats, as Valtteri Bottas’s Cadillac lost a crucial wing mirror and Pierre Gasly’s Alpine came to a grinding halt on the circuit.

The action kicked off just over an hour into the session when Bottas's teammate, Sergio Perez, became the first casualty of the day. He was forced to stop on the back straight after navigating Turn 10, triggering an initial red flag that halted proceedings. Fortunately for Perez, his car was swiftly retrieved, allowing him to rejoin the fray with a respectable tally of 42 laps.

The drama escalated when Bottas took over the day’s driving duties. After completing 18 laps across multiple stints, disaster struck for the Cadillac driver as his wing mirror unexpectedly detached and plummeted onto the Sakhir circuit. This shocking incident necessitated yet another red flag to clear the hazardous debris, but the excitement didn't stop there. Just as the session seemed to get back on track, disaster struck again.

Moments later, Gasly’s Alpine came to a standstill on the run to Turn 1. The French driver had no choice but to park his vehicle in an escape road nestled between the pit lane and the first corner, prompting the second red flag of the day. Interestingly, this stoppage had been planned to allow the FIA to assess and adhere to their procedural protocols.

As the smoke settled, Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari emerged as the fastest contender heading into the final two hours of the session, showcasing its prowess ahead of McLaren’s Lando Norris and George Russell’s Mercedes. Gasly's Alpine, alongside Ollie Bearman’s Haas, rounded out the top five, but the day’s events left fans buzzing with anticipation for what’s to come.

With the Bahrain test proving to be anything but predictable, the stage is set for an exhilarating Formula 1 season ahead. Will teams learn from these early mishaps, or will more surprises await as the competition heats up? One thing is for sure: the F1 circus is back, and it’s already delivering the kind of drama fans crave!
