Sebastien Ogier Gears Up for Record-Breaking 10th WRC Title: “The Motivation is Still There!”

In the electrifying world of the World Rally Championship (WRC), a seismic shift is about to unfold as Sebastien Ogier, a legend in his own right, sets his sights on an unprecedented 10th title. Fresh off a monumental ninth championship victory, the French maestro is back and hungrier than ever, declaring that the motivation “to go for it” remains strong.

Just hours after matching the legendary Sebastien Loeb as a fellow nine-time world champion last November, Ogier was thrust into the spotlight, facing relentless questions about his ambitions for 2026. Now, as the WRC season revs up this weekend in Monte Carlo—an arena where he has long showcased his brilliance—the stakes could not be higher. At 42 years old, Ogier stands tall as the reigning champion and the clear favorite to secure his 11th victory in Monte Carlo.

Reflecting on his outstanding 2025 campaign, which many consider the pinnacle of his illustrious career, Ogier managed to clinch the title while sitting out three rallies, a testament to his remarkable skill and tenacity. Teaming up with co-driver Vincent Landais, Ogier dominated the season with six wins, finishing on the podium in 10 of 11 events, ultimately snatching the championship from Toyota teammate Elfyn Evans by a slender four points.

As he embarks on the new season, Ogier has announced his intention to compete in only 10 of the 14 scheduled rallies—one less than last year. Despite this reduced schedule, the rallying world is buzzing with speculation that Ogier’s formidable form might yet again propel him into title contention. “I think it was pretty much visible from the outside, but from my point of view, I believe it [2025] was definitely one of my strongest seasons in my career,” Ogier told Motorsport.com. “I need to appreciate that and be happy with what we achieved last year.”

But can he do it again? While many fans and analysts eagerly anticipate his pursuit of a historic 10th title, Ogier remains grounded, acknowledging the formidable challenges that lie ahead. “Everybody is now questioning me about 10 [titles], but the truth is I know it won’t be easy to redo this kind of performance. Let’s see, I can only try,” he stated, emphasizing the unwavering support of his team and his own relentless drive.

This season, the competition is fierce. With two-time champion Kalle Rovanpera stepping into the world of single-seaters and 2019 champion Ott Tanak taking a break from full-time racing, the field is wide open. Yet, Ogier’s teammate, Evans, is expected to mount a serious challenge, while Toyota’s new signing, 2025 WRC2 champion Oliver Solberg, is poised to make an immediate impact.

Hyundai also aims to put up a stronger fight this year, having worked diligently to rectify the issues faced with their i20 N Rally1 car. Meanwhile, Toyota has been busy enhancing its already formidable GR Yaris, with significant upgrades focused on suspension and a new rear wing, ensuring they remain a force to be reckoned with.

When Ogier was asked if he was astonished by Toyota’s continued improvements, he responded thoughtfully: “That is the key to success everywhere. We keep working and trying to improve what was already good and strong last year. In this sport, if you don’t move forwards most of the time, you are going backwards—so there is never time to relax.”

With a fierce competitive spirit, Ogier remains vigilant, aware that Hyundai will undoubtedly strive for redemption after a challenging previous season. “I think Hyundai will be motivated to try and do a better season than last year, so for sure we need to do the best to stay in front,” he asserted.

As the engines roar to life in Monte Carlo, all eyes will be on Sebastien Ogier—a champion ready to carve his name deeper into the annals of rallying history. Will he defy the odds and secure that coveted 10th title? The countdown has begun, and the anticipation is palpable!
