Liam Lawson Sparks Major Concerns About F1 Reliability Ahead of Groundbreaking 2026 Season

As the F1 world gears up for a revolutionary 2026 season, all eyes are on Liam Lawson, who is set to make his mark with the Racing Bulls team in Formula 1’s most transformative era yet. Lawson, a rising star in the racing sphere, has dropped a bombshell—highlighting reliability as the paramount “question mark” looming over the upcoming season.

The 2026 regulations are not just a minor tweak; they represent the most significant overhaul of power units since the turbo hybrids were introduced in 2014. The stakes have never been higher as the new power systems promise to unleash a staggering 350kW of power—up from a mere 120kW in 2025—thanks to the removal of the MGU-H and a shift towards sustainable fuels. This seismic shift won’t just impact power but will also introduce groundbreaking chassis changes, including active aerodynamics and shorter, narrower wheelbases.

But that’s not all. Racing Bulls faces an uphill battle as they will be leveraging Red Bull’s first in-house power unit in this new landscape. Team principal Laurent Mekies has already hinted at potential “struggles,” compounding the uncertainties Lawson and his team must navigate.

With the season-opening Australian Grand Prix fast approaching on March 8th, Lawson has candidly expressed his concerns. “I mean, immediately, to be honest, after testing, I think obviously the question mark will be reliability,” Lawson said during the Racing Bulls launch. “It will be a major issue for many teams as we head into the race, but we’ll obviously try to figure that stuff out very quickly in testing.”

The pressure is mounting, and Lawson is fully aware of the challenges ahead. He elaborated, “We’ll do a lot of different styles of planned running, and I think obviously through the season, there’ll be development and teams finding their way. But I think very quickly, after testing, we’ll have an idea of what sort of package we have.”

The excitement is palpable, but so too is the anxiety. The 2026 F1 regulations promise to revolutionize the sport, with new movable wings replacing traditional DRS protocols and an increased electrical output in hybrid systems. Furthermore, the introduction of 100% sustainable fuel is set to change the game altogether.

Don’t be left in the dust—stay on the cutting edge of the Formula 1 action with the 2026 F1 calendar, designed for easy integration into your smartphone or PC. As the countdown to the new season ticks away, the question remains: can teams like Racing Bulls conquer the reliability challenges that lie ahead? The world is watching, and the race is just beginning.
