McLaren rises from chaos: how mistakes forged a stronger F1 team for 2026

McLaren Rises from the Ashes: CEO Zak Brown Declares Team ‘Better Prepared’ for F1 2026 After Learning from Mistakes

In a bold proclamation that sets the stage for an electrifying Formula 1 season, McLaren CEO Zak Brown has candidly acknowledged the blunders of the past while proclaiming that his team is now “better prepared” than ever for the 2026 championship race. In a passionate open letter to McLaren supporters, Brown reflected on the tumultuous journey of the 2025 season—a year marked by nail-biting competition and hard-earned victories.

The mantra of the sport, as Brown puts it, is that “s*** happens.” However, what truly matters is how a team responds to adversity. McLaren faced its fair share of challenges last year, but instead of crumbling under pressure, they emerged stronger. Brown emphasized that the team’s resilience was tested as they fought tooth and nail against fierce rivals, ultimately clinching both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships for the ninth time in their storied history.

Lando Norris, leading the charge, triumphed in securing his first drivers’ title, edging out Red Bull’s Max Verstappen by a mere two points. Meanwhile, his teammate Oscar Piastri, who had been at the forefront for much of the season, ended up in third place, trailing by 11 points. The close competition with Red Bull and Verstappen pushed McLaren to its limits, with Brown acknowledging the intensity of the battle: “The competition was fiercer than ever, but we relished the fight.”

Yet, it wasn’t all smooth sailing. Brown openly admitted to the mistakes made throughout the season—errors that undoubtedly played into the hands of their competitors. “We definitely made some mistakes, which are important to acknowledge,” he stated. “But these were dealt with swiftly, providing valuable lessons that made us better as a team.”

This proactive approach to learning from errors is a hallmark of McLaren’s philosophy. “When we make mistakes, we take responsibility. We address difficult situations directly, openly, and constructively,” Brown explained. This level of transparency and accountability is what Brown believes will propel the team to greater heights in the future.

As the F1 landscape braces for a significant rule reset, McLaren is not just a participant but a formidable contender, ready to capitalize on the lessons learned in the previous season. “The lessons we learned last year, and there were many, are part of our constant evolution as a team,” Brown declared with confidence. “We’re a relatively young team, but we learn quickly and bounce back with vigor and purpose.”

Championships, as history shows, are not merely won on the track but are forged in the fires of pressure and challenge. McLaren’s tenacity in overcoming obstacles is a testament to their commitment to excellence. As they gear up for the upcoming season, fans can expect an invigorated team that’s not just ready to compete but poised to dominate.

McLaren’s journey is a thrilling saga of resilience, learning, and unyielding spirit. With Zak Brown leading the charge, the message is clear: McLaren is back, and they are ready to take on the world of Formula 1 with renewed vigor and purpose. Buckle up; this season promises to be a wild ride!
