Sebastien Buemi’s shocking first corner blunder costs him victory at Mexico City E-Prix

Sebastien Buemi’s Heartbreaking Blunder Costs Him Victory in Mexico City E-Prix!

In a stunning twist of fate at the Formula E Mexico City E-Prix, Sebastien Buemi found himself lamenting a “silly mistake” that shattered his hopes for victory right from the start. The seasoned racer, who had been riding high on the momentum of securing an illustrious pole position—his 17th, tying him with the legendary Jean-Éric Vergne—was poised for a remarkable comeback. But as the lights went out, disaster struck.

Buemi, showcasing a pace not seen in years, had dominated the practice sessions and qualifying rounds, establishing himself as a formidable contender on the grid. However, his promising lead evaporated in an instant during the opening corner. Attempting to fend off a challenge from DS Penske’s Taylor Barnard, Buemi miscalculated his maneuver at Turn 1, ultimately losing control and plummeting to the back of the field.

Reflecting on his disastrous move, Buemi expressed regret, saying, “I had a slow start, and I couldn’t really see him – he was a bit in my dead spot. I just didn’t want to give up the position because it’s not so easy to pass.” He candidly admitted, “In hindsight, I should have just accepted to give it up and be P2.” This critical misjudgment cost him dearly, turning what could have been a stellar race into a tale of lost opportunities.

Despite the setback, Buemi battled his way back to a respectable sixth place, only to face further frustration with a slow puncture that forced him to pit and ultimately left him with no points to show for his efforts. However, he did manage to snag three points for his pole position, a small consolation for a weekend rife with promise but marred by mishaps.

Buemi, visibly frustrated yet hopeful, shared his thoughts on the weekend’s performance: “For a long time, I don’t remember having had so much pace. So it’s hard to accept, when you have such a good car and you leave with only three points.” The veteran racer remains optimistic, vowing to learn from his missteps: “But, yeah, not much we can do. We have to move on. It doesn’t mean we’re going to be good [like this] again, but it’s a good sign. So let’s keep pushing and learn from the mistakes.”

With the dust settling on this dramatic race, all eyes are on Buemi as he gears up for the next challenge. Will he bounce back stronger, or will the shadow of this blunder linger over his season? One thing is for sure—Buemi’s resilience will be tested in the races to come!
