Sebastien Buemi snatches stunning Mexico City Formula E pole after rival’s shocking lap deletion

Sebastien Buemi Takes Shocking Pole Position in Mexico City E-Prix Amidst Controversy!

In a thrilling twist of fate at the Mexico City E-Prix, Sebastien Buemi has defied the odds to secure pole position for Formula E’s landmark 150th race, despite not posting the fastest lap in the final showdown against Taylor Barnard. The DS Penske driver Barnard appeared to be cruising to a sensational pole when disaster struck—an unexpected snap of oversteer at the final corner sent him off track, resulting in the deletion of his lap time. This dramatic moment has sent shockwaves through the paddock, as Buemi, who had been struggling all day, now finds himself at the front of the grid.

The starting order for the E-Prix is now set, with Buemi leading the charge, followed closely by Barnard, Edoardo Mortara, and Mitch Evans, who round out the top four. However, it was a day of despair for Pascal Wehrlein; the former champion faced a shocking exit in the group stage, leaving him to start from the sixth row—a far cry from his previous successes, including back-to-back poles in Mexico City.

The qualifying session unfolded under cool mid-morning conditions, with the first group featuring championship leader Jake Dennis, who had dominated practice. Dennis kicked off the day by clocking a blistering lap of 1m 06.492, securing his spot in the duels alongside Müller, Barnard, and Mortara, while Mahindra’s Nyck de Vries languished at the bottom of the group.

In a surprising turn, the second group saw the elimination of Wehrlein, who could only muster a sixth-fastest time. The Porsche powerhouse struggled, as not a single one of their six cars made it past the semi-finals. Buemi, however, showcased his resilience, posting the fastest group stage lap of 1m 06.328, which set him on a trajectory towards the final rounds of qualifying.

Throughout the duels, Buemi displayed a pattern of improvement, often clocking better times in sector two, leading to his advancement past Oliver Rowland in the quarter-finals and a comfortable victory over Evans in the semi-finals. Barnard, on the other hand, had a rollercoaster ride; after defeating Müller in the quarter-finals and narrowly edging out Mortara in the semi-finals, he seemed destined for greatness until fate dealt him a cruel blow at the final corner.

As the stage is set for what promises to be an electrifying race, all eyes will be on Buemi as he attempts to convert his unexpected pole position into victory. The uncertainty surrounding Barnard’s misfortune adds a layer of intrigue to the race, leaving fans on the edge of their seats. Will Buemi capitalize on this incredible opportunity, or will the ghosts of qualifying haunt him in the race ahead?
