Max Verstappen’s Red Bull legacy: who was his greatest team-mate in F1 history?

As the world of Formula 1 gears up for another thrilling season, a burning question is igniting debates among fans and experts alike: Who stands as the ultimate team-mate of Max Verstappen at Red Bull Racing? Enter Isack Hadjar, the latest driver to step into the spotlight, becoming Verstappen’s seventh partner since the Dutch prodigy joined the ranks in 2016. But who among his previous companions truly left a mark?

Since Verstappen burst onto the F1 scene with Red Bull, he has raced alongside six different teammates, each with their own unique story. Among these, Daniel Ricciardo emerges as the only teammate who consistently posed a serious challenge to Verstappen’s dominance. Their fierce rivalry spanned 58 adrenaline-filled races, where Ricciardo claimed four victories against Verstappen’s five. Their qualifying duel was nothing short of electrifying, with Ricciardo narrowly trailing at 24-34 in Verstappen’s favor. This dynamic duo propelled Red Bull to impressive finishes, including a runner-up spot in the constructors’ championship in 2016 and solid third-place finishes in 2017 and 2018.

But what about Sergio Perez? The Mexican driver boasts an impressive trophy collection from his four-year stint at Red Bull, playing a pivotal role in clinching back-to-back constructors’ championships in 2022 and 2023. Perez’s five race victories, including his iconic wins at Monaco and Azerbaijan, solidify his status as a formidable contender. His masterclass performance in the dramatic 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where he thwarted Lewis Hamilton’s advances, was instrumental in securing Verstappen’s first-ever championship title.

Then we have Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon, both of whom, despite their undeniable talent, struggled to keep pace with Verstappen’s soaring ambitions. Gasly’s brief 12-race period with Red Bull made it difficult to gauge his true potential, while Albon showcased flashes of brilliance in 26 races, earning two podium finishes during Red Bull’s 2020 campaign that saw them finish second in the constructors’ standings.

Yuki Tsunoda and the recently departed Liam Lawson round out the list of Verstappen’s teammates. Tsunoda, who is now set to be Red Bull’s reserve driver for 2026 after a challenging season where he finished 17th in the drivers’ standings, and Lawson, who had a mere two races alongside Verstappen, have yet to make a significant impact on the team’s legacy.

So, as the countdown to the new season begins, the burning question remains: who truly deserves the title of Max Verstappen’s greatest Red Bull team-mate? Fans are invited to cast their votes and voice their opinions in the poll below!

In addition to this riveting debate, the racing world is buzzing with excitement over the upcoming 2026 regulations, promising a radical transformation of the sport. With the introduction of movable wings replacing traditional DRS, enhanced electrical power in hybrid systems, and a commitment to 100% sustainable fuel, the landscape of Formula 1 is set to change dramatically.

Don’t miss a second of the high-octane action—mark your calendars with the 2026 F1 schedule and ensure you’re ready for every pulse-pounding moment! The race for supremacy on the track is about to get even more thrilling!
