MotoGP’s new controversial event is progressing as planned.

MotoGP’s novo evento controverso está avançando como planejado.

It seems increasingly likely that the Kazakhstan MotoGP Grand Prix in 2024 will take place in June. A recent meeting with those involved approved most of the work needed at the Sokol International Circuit. The race scheduled for last year at the circuit was canceled due to various issues, including the venue not meeting the necessary specifications. Rumors of a similar outcome in 2024 persisted in the MotoGP paddock, but a provisional green light was given by the championship organizers last month. Broadcasters were instructed to make travel arrangements for a key circuit inspection. According to a report circulated to the teams, the visit was positive and, although there is still work to be done on the box building and team offices, the track itself is fully completed, except for the painting. The report expressed confidence that, with effort, the necessary preparations can be made for an exciting inaugural Grand Prix in Kazakhstan.

The report also mentioned the measures taken by the circuit owners to ensure a smooth event. They relied on experienced partners from the Middle East, including event management companies with Formula 1 experience and the Saudi Motorsport Company. The former CEO of the Sepang Circuit and team principal Razlan Razali was present during the inspection. However, the report acknowledged that the circuit’s location may pose challenges for those attending the race. Situated an hour and a half’s drive from the nearest city, with limited infrastructure, it will result in a long journey for drivers, teams, staff, and media. Efforts are being made to alleviate this issue, such as plans to open a new highway and build hotels closer to the track in the future. For now, they have built 24 two-bedroom suites above the pits for MotoGP riders to rent. These suites are designed to provide a furnished apartment with services, allowing them to stay on-site throughout the Grand Prix without the need to travel to a hotel.
