Oscar Piastri’s Surreal Journey: Matching Mark Webber’s F1 Wins in a Race Against Time!

In a thrilling turn of events, McLaren’s rising star Oscar Piastri has reached a monumental milestone in his Formula 1 career, matching the legendary Mark Webber’s win tally. The young Australian driver, who has quickly made a name for himself in the competitive world of F1, admits that sharing this achievement with his manager is nothing short of “surreal.”

As of the 2025 season, Piastri has emerged victorious in seven races, bringing his career total to nine wins. This impressive feat not only eclipses the win count of fellow Australian Daniel Ricciardo but also places him squarely on par with Webber, a former F1 powerhouse and now Piastri’s mentor. The racing community is abuzz as Piastri stands poised to become Australia’s third most successful driver in F1 history, trailing only behind the iconic Sir Jack Brabham and Alan Jones.

Reflecting on this uncanny coincidence, Piastri shared his excitement during a recent interview on the Beyond the Grid podcast. “I’m sure he’ll be celebrating it more than I will,” Piastri quipped, acknowledging the friendly rivalry that has developed between him and Webber, who managed to rack up nine wins during his own illustrious career. “It’s been a good little inside joke through the year,” he added, highlighting the lighter side of their competitive spirits.

For Piastri, who was still an infant when Webber made his F1 debut at the 2002 Australian Grand Prix, the transition from fan to mentee has been nothing short of extraordinary. “It took a while to sink in that Mark Webber is my manager,” he confessed on the Off the Grid podcast. The young driver experienced a whirlwind of emotions when he first realized that the racing idol he grew up idolizing was now guiding his career. “It was kind of surreal,” he admitted, “meeting someone I’ve watched pretty much my whole childhood in F1, and he’s now taking care of my career.”

Webber’s wealth of experience in the cutthroat world of Formula 1 has proven invaluable for Piastri, especially as he navigates the challenges of being a championship contender. The lessons that Webber learned during his own battles for the title—particularly during his near-miss in the 2010 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix—have been pivotal in shaping Piastri’s approach to racing. “He’s obviously been in a similar kind of fight in his career,” Piastri remarked, recognizing the importance of learning from past experiences. “Those are things that can be passed on to me before I have to experience it myself, which is invaluable at times.”

As the 2025 season progressed, Piastri’s determination and skill have increasingly placed him at the forefront of the F1 elite, sparring for supremacy alongside his McLaren teammate Lando Norris and the formidable Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing. With each race, Piastri inches closer to surpassing Webber’s legacy, but he knows that the journey is just beginning.

Fans around the globe are eagerly anticipating Piastri’s next victory, which will not only elevate him in the ranks of Australian racing legends but also solidify his status as a rising titan in Formula 1. With his sights set firmly on the future, Oscar Piastri continues to defy expectations, proving that the road to greatness is paved with both triumphs and invaluable mentorship.

As the racing world watches with bated breath, one thing is clear: Oscar Piastri is on a trajectory to redefine what it means to be an Australian driver in Formula 1, and with Mark Webber by his side, the sky is the limit!
