Novo SUV elétrico: Kia EV5 a caminho

Kia finished 2025 in the Top 10 of the brands that sold the most new cars in the national market: 7,650, reported the Automobile Association of Portugal (ACAP), which represents a 2% increase compared to 2024 (even though this growth corresponded to a slight decrease in market share, from 3.58% to 3.40%). However, the South Korean brand aims to sell 10,000 units annually by 2008 and achieve a market share of 5% in our country, a goal supported by a strong offensive of new products. On the agenda for 2026, the Sportage and EV5 will arrive in January, K4 in February, EV2 and K4 SW in April, Seltos in June, and XCeed in July. Once the plan is finalized, the lineup will include nine hybrid or thermal models, two plug-in hybrids, and nine electric vehicles.

The EV5 has dimensions similar to the Sportage, fits into the C-SUV segment, and, at the beginning of its commercial career, planned for soon, features a front electric motor with 218 hp, powered by a battery with a capacity of 81 kWh, which allows it to announce a range of 530 km in the combined WLTP cycle. The charging power is up to 150 kW at fast charging stations (10%-80% in 30 minutes), and up to 11 kW in alternating current (0%-100% in 7 hours and 30 minutes), with the system also featuring V2C functionality for powering external electrical devices. For a subsequent phase of commercialization, more versions are planned, including one with a smaller capacity battery and another with two motors and all-wheel drive.

The interior of the EV5, especially regarding the dashboard, evokes that of the EV9, and of recent KIA models, also featuring three screens, two measuring 12.3’’ (instrumentation and infotainment system control), and one measuring 5.1’’ (climate control), positioned side by side and under the same cover. The ambient lighting, which can change automatically depending on the driving mode, allows for the creation of visual alerts for the driver (speed limit violations, for example). The trunk offers a capacity of 610 liters, with all seats available, and the rear gate features electric opening and closing of the “hands-free” type. Very soon, the KIA importer for Portugal promises to reveal more information about its new creation, including the respective prices.
