In a heartwarming display of familial support, Formula 1 sensation Carlos Sainz Jr. has publicly rallied behind his father, the legendary Carlos Sainz Sr., as he prepares to embark on an audacious quest to break his own record as the oldest driver to win the grueling Dakar Rally. The stakes couldn’t be higher as Sainz Sr., now a seasoned 63, gears up for the 2026 edition of this iconic endurance race, eager to reclaim glory after a tumultuous crash in 2025.

Taking to Instagram, the Williams star poured his heart out in a touching tribute, exuding admiration for his father’s indomitable spirit. “I have watched you take on this challenge for years. I experienced a small taste of it last summer and my admiration towards you and what you do keeps increasing. Good luck at the Dakar, Dad. Proud of you for the way you keep pushing and raising the bar! Vamos!” he wrote, encapsulating the essence of their bond and the relentless drive that defines the Sainz legacy.

But that’s not all—Sainz Sr. has already made strides in the early stages of the 2026 rally, confirming a flawless prologue stage on social media. “Prologue completed with no issues,” he announced, setting the stage for what promises to be an exhilarating two weeks of nearly 8,000km of relentless driving across the rugged terrains of Saudi Arabia. The race kicks off from Yanbu, ultimately leading back to the very same city, challenging every ounce of endurance and skill from its participants.

With a remarkable history in the Dakar Rally, having clinched victory in 2010, 2018, 2020, and 2024 alongside navigator Lucas Cruz, Sainz Sr. is a formidable force. As he embarks on this new chapter, rally fans and racing enthusiasts alike are holding their breath, eager to witness whether this remarkable athlete can defy age and expectations once more.

As the Dakar Rally unfolds, eyes will be on this iconic duo—not just as father and son but as titans of their respective racing worlds. Will Sainz Sr. etch his name into history once again? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: the Sainz legacy is far from over. Buckle up, because this race is just getting started!
