Ferrari’s bold move: Lewis Hamilton’s race engineer stays despite rocky first year struggles

Ferrari’s Bold Move: Hamilton’s Race Engineer Decision Raises Eyebrows Ahead of 2026 Season!

In a stunning twist in the world of Formula 1, Ferrari has reportedly made a pivotal decision regarding Lewis Hamilton’s race engineer for the upcoming 2026 season. According to Italian media sources, the Scuderia has opted to retain Riccardo Adami as Hamilton’s primary race engineer, despite a tumultuous and often awkward first year together.

Since the legendary seven-time world champion joined Ferrari at the start of 2025, the relationship between Hamilton and Adami has been nothing short of rocky. Key moments of tension have marred their collaboration, starting with the Australian Grand Prix where Hamilton expressed clear frustration over Adami’s inadequate communication. Fans were left stunned when Hamilton, visibly bewildered, found himself lacking crucial information during pivotal moments of the race.

The drama continued at the Miami Grand Prix, where a frustrated Hamilton famously told Adami to “have a cup of tea” as he struggled to navigate traffic behind teammate Charles Leclerc. This public display of exasperation underscored the growing rift between the two, culminating in a particularly awkward exchange during the Monaco GP. When Hamilton inquired, “Are you annoyed at me?” it appeared as though Adami had dismissed him entirely, only for Ferrari to later clarify that Adami had already vacated the pit wall at that moment.

In the wake of these challenges, Ferrari’s team principal, Fred Vasseur, indicated that a review of Hamilton’s support structure was imminent, aiming to maximize performance for the upcoming season. Now, reports from the Italian publication Auto Racer reveal that after a “very positive” dinner between Hamilton and Adami, Ferrari has decided to stick with Adami for the 2026 season.

This decision is particularly significant as Ferrari gears up for substantial regulatory changes in 2026, aiming to climb back to the top of the F1 hierarchy. Hamilton, eager to revitalize his career amid whispers that this could be his last year with Ferrari, finds himself under immense pressure to improve from a disappointing 2025 season. Finishing sixth in the drivers’ standings, Hamilton trailed his teammate Leclerc by a staggering 86 points, marking the first time in his illustrious career that he failed to secure a single podium finish throughout an entire season.

With his qualifying performances diminishing—culminating in a shocking trio of Q1 exits in Las Vegas, Qatar, and Abu Dhabi—Hamilton is keen to turn the tide as he heads into the new year. The stakes could not be higher as he prepares to confront a new season filled with fresh opportunities and challenges.

As Ferrari’s bold strategy unfolds, the F1 community will be watching closely. Can Hamilton and Adami mend their rocky relationship and deliver the results that both the driver and the team desperately need? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure: the 2026 season promises to be a thrilling chapter in the saga of Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari.
