Degundo advances the site carnewschina.com, Dongfeng has decided to postpone the start of mass production of solid-state batteries to 2027, due to the need to work on the maturation of the technology, namely in optimizing the industrialization process, to reduce the respective costs. Currently, this company, which, along with SAIC Motor, Changan Automobile, and FAW, makes up the group of the four largest state-owned car manufacturers in China, is developing this type of batteries using prototypes, such as the one present in the images published here.

This announcement corrects information recently disseminated by Dongfeng, which had confirmed that production would begin in September 2026. The site in question states that the manufacturer already has a line with a capacity of 0.2 GWh, but production is still proceeding at a very slow pace, and only on an experimental basis.

This postponement was made known after a technical inspection that confirmed the company’s success in developing this technology, but also recommended various process improvements, so that the new generation of batteries meets the goal of significantly improving the range of cars with 100% electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid engines.

Regarding the batteries, Dongfeng has already announced test results. For example, it reported that this new generation is capable of retaining 72% of the stored energy at extreme temperatures (-30 ºC); and successfully passed safety tests in a thermal chamber at 170ºC. The Chinese company hopes to integrate it into an unprecedented platform with a 1200 V architecture – depending on the charger, it allows for the recovery of up to 2.5 km of range per second. They also announce up to 1000 km of range, and motors capable of 30,000 rpm.
