Yuki Tsunoda hints at thrilling comeback: could he break free from reserve role in 2026?

Yuki Tsunoda, the once-promising star of Red Bull Racing, is not ready to fade into obscurity just yet! After being unceremoniously dropped from his full-time Formula 1 seat, the 25-year-old Japanese driver is hinting at a thrilling comeback in the near future. While relegated to the role of reserve driver, Tsunoda remains optimistic about his prospects for 2026, suggesting that he might not be confined to simulator duties alone.

In a shocking turn of events, Tsunoda’s former teammate, Isack Hadjar, is stepping into the Red Bull seat after a remarkable rookie season, while the young Arvid Lindblad is set to join the sister team, Racing Bulls. This leaves Tsunoda with a bitter taste, especially after he only managed to score 30 points over 24 races in 2025—a stark contrast to the eight victories and championship challenges faced by Max Verstappen in the same car.

Despite this setback, Tsunoda’s spirit remains unbroken. Speaking candidly to DAZN Japan, he stated, “There’s a chance that next year I won’t be focusing solely on simulator work and my role as reserve driver.” His words are laced with intrigue as he mentions “several scenarios are possible” for his future in F1. Tsunoda’s determination to improve is palpable: “I’m only 25, so there’s still a lot of room for improvement. This is just the beginning. Perhaps it’s the end of a chapter, but I’m curious to see how I can develop from here.”

Could this be the dawn of a new era for Tsunoda? The driver market for 2027 is shaping up to be a frenzy, with notable names like Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll potentially leaving their current teams. The impending partnership between Aston Martin and Honda opens up tantalizing possibilities for Tsunoda. He could be eyeing a seat at Aston Martin, where he would be a strong candidate to replace either Stroll or Alonso if they opt not to renew their contracts.

But that’s not all! Tsunoda’s path could also lead him to Alpine, where former teammate Pierre Gasly currently races. With Franco Colapinto securing the seat for next year, there’s a critical need for standout performances that could pave the way for Tsunoda’s return to F1 glory.

As the motorsport world watches closely, the question on everyone’s lips is: Will Yuki Tsunoda reclaim his place on the F1 grid? The answer may lie in the thrilling twists and turns of the upcoming seasons, but one thing is clear—this driver is far from finished. Keep your eyes peeled, because the next chapter of Yuki Tsunoda’s racing saga could be just around the corner!
