Seat tem nova fábrica de baterias

Seat has just confirmed the start of production at the new battery factory it has installed in the industrial complex of Martorell, located near Barcelona. This unit is capable of producing up to 1200 batteries per day and supplies not only the Cupra division of the Spanish manufacturer but also the other brands of the VW Group involved in the “Electric Urban Car” program, under which four 100% electric vehicles will be launched in 2026: Cupra Raval, Skoda Epiq, and VW ID. Polo and ID. Cross.

In fact, it was precisely to Seat that the largest European car manufacturer entrusted the development of this program, which is extremely important for the future of the group, due to the popularity of the segment in which its four protagonists operate in the European market. The inauguration of the battery factory thus places the Martorell headquarters at the epicenter of future mobility.

The construction of this infrastructure, covering about 64,000 square meters, required an investment of around 300 million euros. The facility is capable of producing one battery pack every 45 seconds, which amounts to 1200 per day or 300,000 per year. “The inauguration of this assembly factory represents a turning point in the history of Seat. In Spain, we are finally ready to manufacture the electric vehicles that will make future mobility more accessible across Europe,” stated Markus Haupt, CEO of Seat and Cupra.

Starting in 2026, this factory will exclusively supply the production line for the “twins” Cupra Raval and VW ID.Polo, through an automatic battery transport system over a bridge approximately 600 meters long. This way, and thanks to the installation of a solar panel system capable of producing 70% of the new unit’s energy needs, the pollutant emissions associated with this production process are significantly reduced.

Skoda Epiq and VW ID. Cross, it is recalled, will also be manufactured in Spain, at the unit that the Volkswagen Group owns in Pamplona, in the Navarra region.
