Alex Dunne poised to join Alpine as reserve driver in 2026: a thrilling new chapter

Breaking News: Alex Dunne Set to Join Alpine as Reserve Driver in 2026!

In a thrilling turn of events within the fast-paced world of Formula 1, rising star Alex Dunne appears to be on the cusp of a major breakthrough. The young Irish sensation, despite a tumultuous year, is reportedly in advanced negotiations with the French powerhouse, Alpine, to secure a coveted position as their reserve driver for the 2026 season.

2025 has proven to be a rocky road for the 20-year-old Dunne, who had high hopes of stepping up to an official Formula 1 seat. After being promoted to the illustrious McLaren Young Driver Programme in 2024, Dunne showcased his immense potential by clinching an impressive 4th place during his debut at the Austrian Grand Prix. However, things took a turn when he parted ways with the McLaren team earlier this October, leading to speculation about his future.

Initially, whispers of a potential move to Red Bull as a third driver began circulating after the Italian Grand Prix, elevating expectations for Dunne’s career trajectory. But alas, those dreams were dashed as the anticipated transition failed to materialize. With Red Bull off the table, Dunne is set to continue his journey with Rodin in Formula 2 for the upcoming season, but the latest rumors suggest that hope is far from lost.

Sources reveal that Dunne is now in serious discussions with Flavio Briatore, Alpine’s executive consultant, to take on a dual role as both a reserve driver and a development asset for the team. This strategic partnership could see Dunne signing a contract in the near future, despite not yet having the necessary points for a full FIA Super License required to officially compete in Formula 1.

Nevertheless, the talented Irishman is still eligible to participate in the Friday Practice sessions, which would allow him to gain invaluable experience behind the wheel of an F1 car, all while competing in F2. This unique opportunity could prove to be a pivotal moment in Dunne’s burgeoning career, providing him with the platform to showcase his skills on a larger stage.

As the motorsport world holds its breath, all eyes will be on Alex Dunne as he navigates these critical negotiations. Could this be the launchpad that propels him to F1 stardom? Only time will tell, but one thing is for certain: the future looks promising for this young talent in the realm of elite motorsport. Keep your engines revved and stay tuned for more updates on this exhilarating journey!
