Lando Norris faces shocking €1 million Super Licence fee after F1 championship triumph

Lando Norris Faces Staggering €1 Million Bill After Championship Glory in F1

In the electrifying world of Formula 1, triumph often comes with a price tag that can make even the most seasoned drivers cringe. Lando Norris, the McLaren superstar who clinched his first world championship title in a nail-biting showdown against Max Verstappen, is now staring down a staggering cost of over €1 million just to secure his FIA Super Licence for the upcoming season.

The 2025 championship season was nothing short of a rollercoaster, culminating in an intense battle where Norris edged out Verstappen by a mere two points—an achievement that marks McLaren’s first drivers’ title since 2008. However, the thrill of victory is tempered by the harsh realities of the financial obligations that come with being a top-tier driver in one of the most competitive sports on the planet.

To race in the elite circuit of F1, drivers must cough up a hefty sum each year for their Super Licence. The base fee alone hovers around €11,842, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. For every point gained in the championship, drivers are hit with an additional fee of €2,392. Given Norris’s stellar performance this past season, his total licence cost skyrockets to an eye-watering €1,023,507 for the 2026 season. While this figure is remarkable, it pales in comparison to the astronomical €1.3 million that Max Verstappen was forced to shell out following his dominating performance in 2023.

Norris isn’t alone in this financial frenzy; fellow drivers are also feeling the pinch. Oscar Piastri, who has had a commendable season, will see his Super Licence costs soar by over €300,000 compared to last year, falling just shy of the €1 million mark. Meanwhile, Carlos Sainz is enjoying a breath of fresh air as he transitions to Williams, slashing his costs by more than half a million. In contrast, Charles Leclerc will find himself paying nearly €250,000 less than what he coughed up for his licence this year.

As the dust settles on a thrilling F1 season, the staggering costs associated with racing keep drivers like Norris on their toes, reminding them that in the high-stakes arena of Formula 1, glory comes at a price. As fans eagerly await the next season, one thing is clear: the financial implications of success in this sport are as fierce as the competition itself.
