Alex Dunne eyes sensational move to Alpine for 2026 F1 season: could he be the game-changer?

Irish Sensation Alex Dunne Eyes F1 Glory with Alpine in 2026!

In a thrilling twist for motorsport fans, former McLaren junior Alex Dunne is reportedly in negotiations with Alpine to join their prestigious Formula 1 team for the 2026 season. This comes on the heels of Dunne’s departure from McLaren’s Driver Development Programme last October, where he showcased his potential in two exhilarating FP1 sessions in Austria and Italy.

At just 20 years old, the talented Irish driver has spent much of the past year in relative obscurity as he awaited the next round of Formula 2, where he ultimately clinched a commendable fifth place in the championship standings. Speculation had swirled around a potential move to Red Bull, only to be swiftly dismissed by the Milton Keynes team, leaving many to wonder what’s next for this rising star.

Insiders reveal that senior advisor Helmut Marko, who is rumored to be exiting Red Bull at the end of the year, made a last-minute decision to sign Dunne, only for it to be blocked by the team. This unexpected turn of events has opened the door for Alpine, with reports indicating that Dunne has already engaged in fruitful discussions with Alpine’s Executive Advisor and interim Team Principal, Flavio Briatore.

The buzz is palpable as Dunne is positioned to take on a dual role as both a reserve and development driver for Alpine, all while continuing his F2 campaign with Rodin Motorsport. This strategic move appears to align perfectly with Dunne’s ambitions, as he strives to secure a coveted Super Licence. Despite concerns about not finishing in the top three of the F2 standings, Briatore remains enthusiastic about signing the Offaly-born talent, with hopes that Dunne can still clinch the necessary licence based on his performance throughout the season.

As Alpine gears up for a new chapter in 2026, having confirmed Franco Colapinto alongside Pierre Gasly, the team seems to be fostering an environment of stability. However, should Dunne successfully navigate the Super Licence requirements, he could find himself poised to step in for Gasly if the Argentine fails to keep pace with his French teammate, reminiscent of how he took over from Jack Doohan earlier this year.

The motorsport world is watching closely as Alex Dunne’s journey unfolds. Will this prodigious talent become Alpine’s next star in the fast-paced world of Formula 1? Only time will tell, but one thing is for certain – the excitement surrounding Dunne’s potential move to Alpine is palpable and has fans on the edge of their seats!
