The “Feel Alive” campaign starts on Friday, April 5th, as part of the 2024 National Inspection Plan, aiming to alert drivers and all vehicle occupants to the importance of always using safety devices.

The initiative by the National Road Safety Authority (ANSR), GNR, and PSP, running until April 11th, will include awareness-raising activities and inspection operations, focusing on compliance with road traffic rules and complementary legislation regarding the use of safety devices.

Awareness-raising activities will take place simultaneously with inspection operations in the following locations:

April 5th, at 08:00: Vitória FC Square, Setúbal

April 8th, at 16:00: Santarém A1 Toll Plaza

April 9th, at 09:00: D. Dinis Roundabout, Leiria

April 10th, at 07:00: IC2 – Km 244.500, Albergaria-a-Velha, Aveiro

April 11th, at 10:00: Nelas Road, after Mercadona Commercial Establishment, Viseu

ANSR, PSP, and GNR emphasize “the importance of safety devices,” reminding that their use is essential and urging everyone to use them correctly.

In a statement, the three entities highlight that in a head-on collision at 50 km/h, a driver weighing 70kg without a seatbelt experiences an impact equivalent to a free fall from a third floor.

In addition, the use of an approved helmet, properly fastened and adjusted, reduces the risk of death in case of an accident by 40%.

It is also proven that the correct use of an approved and properly fitted child seat, adapted to the size and weight of the child, reduces the risk of death by 50%. For children up to 18Kg, the use of a rear-facing child seat, combined with the use of a seat belt, reduces the risk of serious injury or death by up to 90%.
