The market for electrified vehicles grew by 9.7% in March.

Mercado de veículos elétricos cresce 31% em setembro

The Automobile Association of Portugal (ACAP) revealed that the market for new electrified vehicles grew by 9.7% in the third month of 2024, with 10,021 new electric, plug-in, and hybrid electric passenger cars registered in Portugal.

Thus, from January to March, registrations of passenger cars of this type totaled 25,654 units, resulting in a positive variation of 13.7% compared to the same period in 2023.

By categories and types of vehicles, in March, 3,739 new electric passenger cars were registered in Portugal, representing an increase of 5.4% compared to the same month of the previous year.

Overall, in the first quarter of 2024, there was an increase of 12.2% in new electric passenger cars compared to the same period in the previous year, with 9,424 units registered.

Regarding light commercial vehicles, ACAP revealed that the market for electric, plug-in, and hybrid electric vehicles experienced a negative evolution of 25.2% in the third month of 2024 compared to the same month last year, with 169 units registered.

Accumulatively, this market reached 651 units, representing a growth of 14.8% compared to 2023.

When it comes to 100% electric vehicles, in the third month of 2024 there was a 24.9% decrease in registrations of light commercial vehicles compared to the same month of the previous year. From January to March, ACAP recorded a growth of 14.4% compared to the same period of the previous year.

As for the heavy vehicle market, which includes passenger and commercial types, in March a new electrified heavy vehicle was registered, representing a 75% decrease.

In cumulative terms, in the first quarter of 2024, there was a positive evolution of 222.2% compared to the same period of 2023, with 29 vehicles of this category being registered.
