“Elixir of youth? Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio until 2027”

Elixir da juventude? Alfa Romeo Giulia e Stelvio até 2027

The phase that Alfa Romeo is currently going through may not be the most stimulating, due to some fundamental changes registered in its strategy for the future. However, after abandoning the plan to sell only electric cars starting in 2027 (announced in 2021, with the retreat from these intentions confirmed earlier this year, already with Santo Ficili in charge of operations), the Arese brand presents very positive results, especially in Europe – a sales growth of 40.37% in the first nine months of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024, mainly due to the success of the Junior, which accounted for 26,411 of the 46,918 vehicles delivered by the Italian manufacturer.

This change in direction extends to the new generations of the Giulia and Stelvio, whose launches have been postponed to after 2027. Thus, until then, production will continue for both the sedan introduced in 2015 and the SUV launched in 2016, both based on the praised Giorgio platform. This is an essential decision to allow the successors to adapt to market demands, anticipating, in particular, the adoption of plug-in hybrid powertrains, which allows for a combination of performance with lower consumption and pollutant emissions.

The news comes from the British publication Autocar, which cites a source from Alfa Romeo, and also guarantees that the 520 hp engine installed in the top Quadrifoglio sports versions will remain in the lineup. However, to comply with increasingly restrictive pollutant emission regulations, the V6 biturbo will undergo an optimization process.

This information comes in the wake of investments made by Alfa Romeo in more compact cars equipped with electrified powertrains, whether plug-in hybrids (Tonale), 100% electric (Junior), or hybrids (in both models). According to Jules Tilstone, the brand’s representative in the UK, “customers remain interested in exciting cars with combustion engines. The Giulia is timeless, and in the segment it competes in, it has almost no rivals”.
