McLaren renova equipe técnica, resultando na saída de David Sanchez.

Sanchez joined McLaren at the beginning of the current Formula 1 season as Technical Director responsible for Car Concept and Performance, after leaving Ferrari. However, after three races in the 2024 season, McLaren made changes to its technical department. Rob Marshall was appointed as Chief Designer, Neil Houldey took over as Technical Director responsible for Engineering, and Peter Prodromou will continue in his role as Technical Director responsible for Aerodynamics. The department that Sanchez oversaw will now focus on Performance and will be led by the Performance Technical Director. Meanwhile, Team Principal Andrea Stella will take on this role until a permanent appointment is confirmed.

Stella commented on the restructuring, stating that it represents the team’s commitment to constantly improving its technical capabilities and workflows to achieve greater efficiency and effectiveness. After discussions between David Sanchez and the team leadership, it was mutually decided that Sanchez would leave the team. It became clear that Sanchez’s role and responsibilities were not aligned with the team’s original expectations when he joined in February 2023. Recognizing this misalignment, both Sanchez and Stella agreed that it would be best to part ways to allow Sanchez to pursue other opportunities that better suit his skills.

Sanchez expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be part of the team. Although the role he envisioned did not match the reality of the position, he leaves with respect for the leadership, admiration for the dedication of his colleagues, and appreciation for the open and honest discussions that led to this decision. He wishes continued success to the team as they strive to reach the top of the grid. Sanchez is looking forward to his next challenge in the world of Formula 1.

McLaren is currently in third place in the F1 Constructors’ Championship, with 55 points, behind Red Bull by 22 points. Ferrari is currently in second place, with the next Japanese Grand Prix scheduled for this weekend.
