According to the website Cars News China, the groups Stellantis and Dongfeng are working together on the design and development of a new SUV, intended for Jeep and preferably marketed in China, which will incorporate some technologies from the Chinese “giant” already present in models from its subsidiaries Voyah and M-Hero. A partnership that, according to the same source, will be very similar to that involving Chery and Jaguar Land Rover in the Freelander project, with the Italian-French consortium responsible for the design, and the Chinese taking charge of the development of electrified powertrains, digitalization, and electronic driving aids. It appears that the goal is for the new model to be launched during the first quarter of 2027.
This news comes shortly after Antonio Filosa, CEO of Stellantis, visited China and the consortium based in Wuhan, with the aim of consolidating the relationship between both companies, and also to learn about and experience vehicles from the various brands owned by Dongfeng Motor – which produces several models of Citroën and Peugeot for the Chinese market. Stellantis, at the same time, has an active partnership with the also Chinese Leapmotor, holding, in fact, 51% of its subsidiary Leapmotor International, which concentrates almost all of the manufacturer’s operations outside the domestic market).
