Hyundai Motorsport Unleashes New Strategic Vision with Andrew Wheatley as WRC Sporting Director!

In a bold move that reverberates through the motorsport world, Hyundai Motorsport has appointed Andrew Wheatley as its newly minted WRC Sporting Director, signaling an ambitious leap toward dominance in the FIA World Rally Championship. This strategic role, established to supercharge the team’s quest for glory, comes just as the spotlight intensifies on the final three exhilarating rounds of the current season, kicking off with the highly anticipated Central European Rally this weekend.

Reporting directly to Hyundai Motorsport President Cyril Abiteboul, Wheatley brings a treasure trove of expertise gathered over three decades in international motorsport, with an impressive 28 years spent specifically in the fiercely competitive WRC arena. His unparalleled experience in regulatory and competitive landscapes positions Hyundai Motorsport to adeptly tackle future challenges and fiercely compete for championships under his insightful leadership.

As the Sporting Director, Wheatley will be at the helm of the Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team’s daily operations, working closely with senior management to dissect upcoming FIA WRC regulations and sculpt the long-term strategy that will define Hyundai Motorsport’s rallying future. With his extensive background, Wheatley aims to ensure that the team is not only ready to face the current season’s challenges but also well-prepared to seize future opportunities.

Wheatley expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I am delighted to join Hyundai Motorsport as WRC Sporting Director at this very exciting time. This is a team that has the experience, skill, and strong driver line-up to win world championships. My role is to support our experienced team in every department, helping them navigate the day-to-day challenges they face and sharing my knowledge to help drive our performance. All the raw ingredients are there, and my goal is to work alongside Cyril, FX, Pablo, and Jan to make our pathway to success as smooth as possible.”

With Wheatley at the wheel of this newly established role, the stakes have never been higher for Hyundai Motorsport as they gear up for the challenges ahead. Can this strategic appointment catapult them to unprecedented heights in the world of rally racing? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: the motorsport community will be watching closely as Hyundai Motorsport embarks on this thrilling new chapter!
